The 2001 proof half sovereigns feature the familiar St. George and the Dragon design.
2001 gold half sovereigns were produced by the mint in two versions, ordinary uncirculated "bullion" grade, and "proofs" for sale to collectors.
Obverse
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. It is the fourth portrait of Elizabeth to be used on the coins.
Reverse
This coin features the traditional St George and the Dragon revese design by Benedetto Pistrucci. This design is probably the most iconic of the reverse designs and has been featured on most sovereigns since it was introduced in 1817.
