This Brilliant Uncirculated Gold £5, also known as the Quintuple Sovereign, is dated 1984. The coin is supplied in a presentation card and sealed in an original Royal Mint vacuum. Brilliant Uncirculated or ‘BU’ coin is one that has never been in circulation. There is a ‘U’ stamp to the left of the year of issue to indicate this. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The initials ‘BP’ can be found on the base under the hoof of the horse. The obverse of the coin features Arnold Machin’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
